HVRP: THE HOMELESS VETERANS REINTEGRATION PROGRAM

November 1, 2011

WHO WE ARE
HVRP is a non-profit, community program operated through HealthNet, a 501(c)(3) Agency, serving the Indianapolis metropolitan area under the aegis of I.U. Health and HealthNet. Funded by a grant through the federal Department of Labor, HVRP offers free services to homeless veterans through the Homeless Initiative Program (1835 North Meridian). Homeless veterans need only call 931-3055 to set an appointment or just drop in on Mondays at 9:00 a.m. or Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. for the HVRP orientation.

WHAT WE DO
Directed by veterans, HVRP assists those who have served their country honorably to handle personal crises that have put them on the street. Our professional team helps homeless veterans to secure stable housing, job training, supportive services, and meaningful employment.

HOW WE DO IT
HVRP offers a pre-employment workshop, a structured job-search program, direct job placement with cooperating community employers, case management follow-along, and referrals for paid job training and supportive services to help our veteran placement stay on the job. We also provide free job-related medical assistance (glasses, dentures, etc.) and even help with veteran housing by contracting with established providers to house new HVRP participants. HVRP also manages a per diem apartment program to house advanced participants.

These programs help our veterans rise from homelessness to self-sufficiency. And that is HVRP’s commitment: We do not leave our wounded behind.

EMPLOYMENT FOCUS
Staffing services provide business clients with employees—for a price. And sometimes the quality of the candidate is questionable. In contrast, HVRP meets the employment needs of local employers with quality veteran candidates who possess proven skills and tested experience. But unlike temporary services, HVRP does it FREE!

And that’s not all. Our team of employment professionals follows up on our placements. We resolve problems before they become threats to employment by providing counseling and supportive services that enable veterans to stay on the job. We are committed to removing barriers, providing support, and empowering veterans to achieve their career goals.

And we monitor veteran placements for up to two years. HVRP even visits job sites to see how the veterans we place are doing. We are committed to their employment success.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS
HVRP maintains detailed and quantified records on each veteran client. These records document the statistical reports HVRP provides to grantors that shows how the HVRP program meets performance expectations. These records are open for audit. They are also the reason why grantors continue to fund program activities. HVRP simply performs its mission: to help veterans find and keep meaningful employment. It is a program that works.

But this success can be measured in a slightly different way. To help veterans succeed in employment, HVRP must ensure that the employers remain satisfied with the program’s employment services. How well has HVRP done?
